NJBIZ, one of New Jersey’s premier general business publications, has featured three Gibbons attorneys – Peter J. Torcicollo, Managing Director; David J. Pascrell, Government & Regulatory Affairs Chair; and Jennifer Phillips Smith, Real Property Co-Chair – on its “Law Power 50” list of the most influential attorneys in private practice, public service, corporate law departments, and nonprofit organizations in the state.

The list is compiled by the NJBIZ editorial staff based on their reporting throughout the past year, with input from experts in various fields and recommendations from readers. As the publication notes, the list “identifies individuals who, through their efforts, are helping to make New Jersey a better place to live, work and do business.” The list ranks in numerical order the Top 10 attorneys among the Law Power 50 and features the remaining 40 alphabetically.

Of Mr. Pascrell, ranked #7, NJBIZ points out:

Pascrell has helped [Gibbons] remain one of New Jersey’s top lawyer-lobbing firms by revenue for 16 years in a row. Throughout a nearly two-decade-long career as a lawyer and lobbyist, Pascrell has represented government affairs clients in Trenton and Washington, D.C., across a range of sectors, including financial and insurance, health and hospital, technology, utilities, development and construction, and public entities. Pascrell has also handled client matters under the administration of every New Jersey governor since 1997 and in the Legislature under both Republican and Democratic control. And he has worked with nearly every New Jersey State governmental entity, particularly the Department of Banking and Insurance, Department of Human Services, Department of Community Affairs, Board of Public Utilities, and Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

In summarizing Mr. Torcicollo’s appearance on the list, NJBIZ writes:

Torcicollo oversees the firm’s operations, executes the executive committee’s directives and implements a strategic business plan. Torcicollo is also a director in the firm’s business & commercial litigation group, which he previously chaired, and maintains a broad-based commercial litigation practice with substantial trial experience in various forums, including federal courts, the state courts of New York and New Jersey, and both AAA and private-party arbitration. Additionally, Torcicollo developed, launched and formerly led the firm’s top-ranked construction litigation practice. He’s been involved in many significant projects, including his role as lead counsel on litigation brought against American Dream, for which he represented the entities behind the project and secured a mutually beneficial settlement allowing the Meadowlands megamall to move forward.”

And with regard to Ms. Smith, NJBIZ says:

Smith counsels clients on redevelopment matters, with a focus on long term, multi-phase transformative projects. In addition to representing clients in connection with mixed use, industrial, restaurant, residential, retail, office, medical, educational and senior living projects, Smith maintains a niche practice in liquor licensing and alcoholic beverage control. She is also the firm’s lead land use attorney on several of New Jersey’s largest, most high-profile development and redevelopment projects, including a $2.5 billion redevelopment project along the Raritan River; the transformation of Asbury Park’s Waterfront; the development of multiple high-rise residential projects in Newark; and the redevelopment hundreds of industrial acres in Hudson County.
