NJBIZ Honors Peter Torcicollo with 2023 ICON Award

Peter J. Torcicollo, Managing Director of Gibbons P.C., is one of only 46 business leaders throughout the state to earn a 2023 ICON Award from NJBIZ, one of New Jersey’s premier business news publications. Winners were honored at an awards ceremony on August 8 at the Doubletree Hotel in Somerset, New Jersey, and will be profiled in a special supplement to an upcoming issue of NJBIZ.

NJBIZ launched the ICON Awards program in 2017 to celebrate New Jersey business leaders over the age of 60 who have achieved noteworthy success, demonstrated strong leadership and unique vision, and shown a longstanding commitment to the New Jersey business community. The ICON Awards acknowledge years of exceptional work in the state and in the winners’ respective industries. Mr. Torcicollo is the fifth Gibbons attorney to receive this award, after Lawrence S. Lustberg (2022), Thomas J. Cafferty (2019), James R. Zazzali (2018), and retired Gibbons attorneys Karen A. Giannelli (2020) and Michael R. Griffinger (2017).

At Gibbons, Mr. Torcicollo deftly juggles his roles as the firm’s Managing Director and Director in the Business & Commercial Litigation Group, which he previously chaired. For over 15 years, he served as Chair of Gibbons’s Professional Development Committee and directed the firm’s recruitment, associate retention, and lateral hiring practices. He has been instrumental in advancing the firm’s recruitment of attorneys who completed judicial clerkships, a strategy that has provided valuable insight into the operations of judges and courts in the federal and state systems. Having been with Gibbons for nearly 30 years, he possesses extensive institutional knowledge and a keen eye toward strengthening client relationships. Mr. Torcicollo has been included on the Thomson Reuters New Jersey Super Lawyers, Woodward/White Best Lawyers®, and the Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, and he has been included on the NJBIZ “Power 100” list of the most powerful people in New Jersey business.

Mr. Torcicollo maintains a broad-based commercial litigation practice with substantial trial experience in various forums, including federal courts, New Jersey and New York State courts, and both AAA and private-party arbitration. Particularly noteworthy is his development, launch, and former leadership of the firm’s top-ranked Construction Litigation practice, recognized by Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business in the Construction Law category and U.S. News Best Lawyers® – Best Law Firms in the National Tier 1 for Litigation – Construction and National Tier 2 for Construction Law (the Construction Law Team also has been regionally ranked in New Jersey). He has represented owners, developers, contractors, and sub-contractors and handled a range of construction-related disputes, including contract claims and claims relating to change orders, construction defects, scheduling and delay, construction liens, public bidding, and design, as well as labor-related claims in the construction sector.
