Gibbons P.C. congratulates Mary Frances Palisano on her inclusion on New Jersey Law Journal’s list of “Women Attorneys of the Year” for 2024. Ms. Palisano is a Director in the firm’s Business & Commercial Litigation Group, as well as the firm’s Pro Bono Chair and Coordinator and Child Advocacy Team Leader. She is among only 15 honorees from throughout the state to receive the honor, which “recognizes attorneys who made an impact in the profession in the past two years … [and] left their mark on the New Jersey legal landscape.”
Ms. Palisano focuses her practice on representing children in school-law and special-education proceedings and handling criminal cases at the municipal, state, and federal levels. Under her leadership of the highly regarded Gibbons Cares Pro Bono Platform since 2013, firm lawyers have donated thousands of pro bono hours annually, over 10,000 in 2023 alone, to those who cannot afford legal services or are underrepresented. She centers the program on areas of critical community need, including veterans’ issues, victims of domestic violence, asylum matters, trafficking cases, tenants’ rights, women- and minority-owned small-businesses, and children with special needs. She has also helped establish pro bono partnerships, such as those with the Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership for its “Small Businesses Need Us” initiative and Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ) for its Veterans Legal Program, for which the Pro Bono Institute honored VLJ, Gibbons, and two additional corporate partners with its nationwide 2024 Corporate Pro Bono (CPBO) Award.
Ms. Palisano is the recipient of the Essex County Bar Association’s Bernard A. Kuttner Pro Bono Service Award and New Jersey State Bar Association Pro Bono Award. Additionally, she has been selected for the National Law Journal “Family/Elder Law Trailblazers” list, Best Lawyers® lists for Criminal Defense: General Practice and Criminal Defense: White-Collar, and Thomson Reuters New Jersey Super Lawyers list for Criminal Defense.
