As part of its annual New Jersey Legal Awards, the New Jersey Law Journal has honored Gibbons P.C. in four categories. The publication sponsors these awards to “honor those lawyers who have left an indelible mark on the legal community in New Jersey and beyond through their unwavering dedication to the profession.” This year’s ceremony was held on October 29 at the Park Chateau in East Brunswick, New Jersey.

The firm was selected as a finalist in three categories: “Diversity Initiative,” “Litigation Departments of the Year – Specialty Practice Area, Intellectual Property,” and “Real Estate Firm of the Year.”

John F. Glass, Gibbons Real Property Group Director, was included on this year’s “New Leaders of the Bar” list, which recognizes attorneys under the age of 40 who bring both notable achievements and outstanding potential to the table. Mr. Glass joins numerous Gibbons attorneys who previously received this accolade.

Robert L. Johnson, the firm’s Chief Diversity Officer, provided a comment to the publication about what New Jersey firms can do to promote diversity in the legal profession: “Helping create more viable ‘business generating’ minority partners is the fastest way to increase and promote diversity in the legal profession … In-house counsel and corporate clients’ use of diverse outside counsel can have significant influence over the success of diverse lawyers, and from an economic perspective help New Jersey firms to achieve this goal by crediting minority partners with origination on matters.”

Jennifer Phillips Smith, Co-Chair of the Gibbons Real Property Group, also responded to a New Jersey Law Journal inquiry, about the firm’s greatest accomplishment from the past year: “We are truly proud of the mark that Gibbons and our clients have made on New Jersey real estate this past year. It is not just the quantity of deals, which exceeded $1 billion in 2023; rather, it is the transformative impact that our clients are making on New Jersey’s communities. … When you see high-rise buildings in Newark, multi-family projects in Asbury Park, the transformation of Sayreville’s industrial past, Jersey City’s continued growth, and the development of a South Jersey port, Gibbons and its clients are there.”
