Gibbons Environmental Counsel Matthew J. Sinkman Joins NYC Brownfield Partnership’s Board of Directors

Matthew J. Sinkman, Counsel in Gibbons’s Environmental Group, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the New York City Brownfield Partnership. The Partnership is a nonprofit organization that provides leadership on Brownfield issues through educational programs, networking events, training, and advocacy. Its members include environmental consulting firms, law firms, governmental agencies, educational institutions, and community-based organizations. Mr. Sinkman’s two-year term on the Board will begin in January 2024.

Regarding his election to the Board, Mr. Sinkman stated: “It is an honor to be appointed to the Board of Directors of the New York City Brownfield Partnership. The Partnership is an outstanding organization that plays a vital role within the community of Brownfield practitioners in New York City, and indeed throughout New York State. I look forward to advancing the Partnership’s goals, which include providing thought leadership and raising public awareness of the benefits of Brownfield redevelopment.”

At Gibbons, Mr. Sinkman represents plaintiffs and defendants in Superfund and other litigation matters regarding the cleanup of hazardous waste sites. He also represents buyers, sellers, and developers of contaminated properties. He is a former Assistant Attorney General in the New York State Office of the Attorney General’s Environmental Protection Bureau.

Mr. Sinkman is also a member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association’s Environmental & Energy Law Section and Co-Chair of the Section’s Enforcement and Compliance Committee.
