Gibbons P.C. was recognized as one of 46 law firms whose 2020 U.S.-based new partner classes comprised more than 50 percent women. The firms, honored with the “Tipping the Scales” designation, were identified through the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance’s New Partner Report, a compilation of public data and self-reported sources released annually for the past nine years.

The Diversity & Flexibility Alliance’s New Partner Report is a yearly collection of data from more than 100 of the nation’s largest and top-grossing law firms, examining the gender breakdown of attorneys promoted to partnership in their U.S. offices. The data is based on publicly available firm announcements and other self-reported sources on new partner classes for 2020, with an effective date of promotion between October 1, 2019 and September 30, 2020. According to the organization’s 2020 report, 40.9 percent of new partners in 137 major U.S. law firms in 2020 were women. Gibbons promoted five attorneys to Director in 2020, three of whom are women.

“By promoting equal numbers of men and women to partner, these firms have signaled their commitment to gender parity and their understanding of the value that women in leadership brings to their firm and clients,” said Manar Morales, President & CEO of the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance. “We applaud our member firms, many of whom took these intentional steps towards increasing gender diversity, leading to quantifiable results as our member firms promoted a substantially higher share of female new partners (43%), compared to the overall share of women in this year’s new partner classes (40.9%),” she added.

“We are always proud to be recognized for the advancement and retention of our women attorneys,” said Patrick C. Dunican Jr., the firm’s Chairman and Managing Director. “We remain committed to increasing the diversity of the legal profession through our innovative Diversity and Women’s Initiatives.”

In addition to the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance, various other organizations and publications have recognized Gibbons for its diversity and women’s initiatives, including the Great Place to Work consulting firm and Fortune magazine, which have named Gibbons both a “Best Law Firm for Diversity” and a “Best Law Firm for Women” in their most recent rankings. Profiles in Diversity Journal, Vault, and Minority Law Journal have also included the firm on various related lists. In addition, Gibbons received the 2009 Catalyst Award, which honors major corporations with leading women’s initiatives throughout the world, and was also one of only 17 firms selected to Working Mother’s inaugural “Best Law Firms for Women” Hall of fame, for their appearance on the publication’s “Best Law Firms for Women” list for ten years.
