Steven S. Fernandez

Mr. Fernandez is a civil and criminal litigator who focuses primarily on complex civil litigation, business disputes, government and internal investigations, and white-collar criminal defense. His civil practice involves all aspects of litigation, from fact investigations and motion practice to trial preparation and practice. His criminal practice involves representing clients in government investigations, prosecutions, and enforcement matters.

Prior to joining Gibbons, Mr. Fernandez clerked for the Honorable Julien X. Neals, U.S.D.J., assisting the court in analyzing procedural issues and drafting opinions and orders on civil, criminal, and in limine motions for matters that included business disputes, securities cases, patents and trademarks actions, civil rights claims, and putative class actions. His background also includes performing proactive corporate internal investigations, interviewing and preparing witnesses, taking and defending depositions, drafting and arguing motions, and assisting with trial strategy and settlement negotiations. Additionally, he has experience preparing productions in response to demands by both the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, as well as in SEC enforcement matters. He has also assisted a federal Special Master in a case before the District Court of New Jersey. Having held staff positions in federal and local government, Mr. Fernandez also liaised with stakeholders and advised on issues.
